Dental Implants in Chesapeake, VA

A dental implant is a great option for restoring your natural-looking and fully functional smileIf you have a missing or extracted tooth and are worried about your options, then dental implants from the Cedar Road Dental in Chesapeake, VA may be the solution you need. They are a permanent solution which don’t require extensive, painful surgery and won’t leave anything unsightly in your mouth.

Before the development of dental implants, dentures or partials were the only alternatives to replacing teeth or a missing tooth. Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth and offer a solution to having removable partial or complete dentures. Implants are very strong, stable, and durable.

Once the implant is placed into the bone, a period of time is required for the bone to grow around implant anchoring the device. The implant is allowed to heal and integrate itself into the bone for four to six months. After the healing phase, the artificial teeth are securely attached to the implant, providing excellent stability and comfort to the patient

Not everyone is a candidate for a dental implant. For an implant to succeed, a candidate must have proper bone density. Like any restoration, implants require thorough oral hygiene and proper maintenance to ensure they last a long time. Eating habits, good oral hygiene, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new implant.

Dental Implants FAQs

What is the procedure for dental implants?

If you need bone grafts for your implants, this is typically done when the tooth is extracted. Once the bone graft integrates with the natural bone, dental implants are mounted in three steps. First, the post is placed into the jaw . The bone needs approximately three- six months to grow around the post. A temporary crown may be positioned over the post. Next, the abutment is attached to the post. Once this is secure, the crown is mounted on the abutment.

How long does it take to heal after a dental implant?

We recommend that patients plan for dental implants to take six months to one year to heal completely. The healing time for dental implants does vary based on how quickly your body produces enough bone to hold the post in place.

Are there any restrictions with dental implants?

You can use your dental implant just as you would a natural tooth. There are no food restrictions, although we do recommend that you avoid chewing hard objects, such as ice.

How do I care for dental implants?

Caring for a dental implant is the same as your other teeth. You brush and floss normally. You should also check the base of the crown periodically to see if any food particles are trapped or if the crown rests above the gum line. Dr. Zahir also checks this during your cleanings and regular exams.

Do I need to replace my dental implants?

The crowns of dental implants may need replacement after 10 to 15 years. The post and abutment of dental implants should not need to be replaced unless you experience bone loss in the area. If you notice that the implant is loose, contact our office to schedule an appointment. We may be able to strengthen the post with a bone graft or recommend other options, such as replacing dental implants with a bridge should you lose too much bone. The same implant can be reused as an anchor for future tooth loss if need be.

Patient Reviews

"I was upset when Dr. Dukes retired because he was the best dentist. But I must say that Dr. Zahir is excellent. Very thorough and explained everything to me. I am facing some dental work and she made me feel informed and prepared. And the new office manager was very sweet and was able to answer all my questions. When a problem occurred with my insurance she quickly solved the problem. Thank you to the whole staff. Everyone is 5 stars!"

Cathy C.

"I felt very good about my initial experience with Dr Zahir, she was very thorough and took the time to explain to me the issues my exam exposed. she took extra pictures so I could see for myself on the computer screen. She made her recommendations and suggested time frame which I was comfortable with. As I was leaving the appointment, I was surprised to see that she is also a licensed periodontist which saves me a trip to specialist. Dr Zahir was very professional and pleasant to deal with."

Dan F.

"My dental cleaning was thorough and complete, including fluoride treatment. This was my first visit with Dr Zahir, and I found her to be very professional and attentive to my dental needs. I would gladly recommend this practice to others looking for a family dental practice."

Robert G.

"My first visit with Dr. Zahir resulted in having a procedure that I was completely not expecting. She listened intently to my concerns and she was thorough in her explanation of what was involved with the procedure and even offered to do it while I was there. It was painless as she and Jan fully explained to me beforehand and throughout the procedure they checked often to be sure I was good. The staff goes out of their way to ease your mind. Thank you!"
